Victoria Beckham’s Plus Size Line at Target!

When I saw Victoria Beckham had a new line at Target, and that it also came in plus sizes, I knew I had to check it out. This skirt is my favorite. I love the 70s Mod look.
But I was concerned that a 3X might be too small. Imagine my surprise when it was too big. I have a big waist, since I have an apple shaped body and I carry most of my weight around my waist. But several of the reviews for the skirt said that it ran large, and boy does it. Today I looked at the reviews of this skirt, and read a Facebook post, and many of them said the entire line fit poorly. That makes me sad because my concern is that there will not be a second line, because this one fit poorly, and thus sold poorly. But I like it so much that I am going to take this skirt to the tailor to have it taken in a little.

And I wish you could see the earrings. One of my favorite things to do is to get a new look and then find earrings to match. I only wear clips so my go to is Etsy and I love finding some  vintage, under $20, including shipping, earrings.
Look at all the choices I had. The key is narrowing down the options. Etsy first lets you define your search “Flower Clip Earrings”, then I choose a color, and “vintage”. It takes time, but it amuses me to have vintage matching earrings.

Plus Size Goes to the Burning Man at the Global Leadership Conference v.1

My husband and I have been the registrars for the Burning Man Global Leadership Conference for all eight of them. So on his birthday, day two of the conference, we found ourselves sitting behind a desk, greeting people from all over the world, people who are thrilled to be at an event like this, and then my friend and fabulous photographer, Sidney Erthal, offered to take a few photos for Affatshionista. It was a great break, fun and of course some fabulous photos.

You’ll notice I am still wearing a knee brace at two months post-op from my knee replacement surgery, but I thought it best to wear it for one of my first really long days. I wish I had thought to wear it on the inside of the leggings, LOL.  And that gorgeous necklace is a loan from my fabulous friend Jennifer Raiser, for a shoot for this outfit. I thought it safest if I wore it rather than put it in my purse.

I took a photo of Gloria Lamb two years ago at this conference, and my phone got stolen that night, so I am thrilled to have this photo, and of course it is SO much better since Sidney took it.

A Plus Size Military Jacket

militaryYCDid you see John Varvatos, one of the Mentors on Fashion Star wearing a jacket similar to this last week, and I see he is also wearing it on his bio?  Can you ask for more than androgyny, a jacket that you can dress up or down, and can you get any more on trend than John Varvatos?

military jacket2Yours Clothing, a plus size store in the U.K. was generous enough to send me this Military Jacket and the best thing about it, for me, is that their UK Size 30-32 fits my US size 26-28 body and I love a tailored look. The arms are a good fit for me as are the shoulders, so it is very comfortable and you know that is important to me.  And it is 100% cotton, which means that in the cool San Francisco Bay area I will be able to wear it most evenings since the temperatures stay in the 60°s here.  I have always been a pacifist so I think more of it as a “band jacket” but regardless, it is everywhere this season, and now it comes in our size.

watches affI thought you might also like to see my necklaces.  The top and bottom ones are my husband’s grandfather’s watches (which I like to soften the military look and it keeps it in the right fashion era).  And the middle pendant is a brass logo of an art piece that is being made for Burning Man this year, Truth is Beauty.

originals of military jacketsHere are the original photos of the jacket, just so you can see a little more detail.  There are epaulets on the shoulders, with buttons and similar details in the back although it is dfficult to see in the photo.

Lots more to come from Yours Clothing, and maybe even a DIY glam version of the jacket from me, and some flirty little dresses (or tunics as they like to call them in the U.K.)

Valentine’s Weekend in the Beth Ditto Heart Sweater

IMG_2689Sometimes you must wonder, what is it that makes Burning Man Project and Burning Man so important to me, and what do I do for them?  Well, they make my life richer, fuller and more fun.  Currently for Burning Man Project I am a volunteer and the Social Media Coordinator, that means that I take photos, interact on Facebook and Tweet for them and update events, etc. on their website.

IMG_0380On Valentine’s Day, February 14th, 2013, Burning Man Project joined Glide in San Francisco by helping serve dinner to over 700 guests on this happiest of hearts day! Not only did we help serve the meal, but leading up to it, we crafted the LOVEliest valentines to give to Glide dinner guests.  The outfit above is what I wore to help make Valentine Card.

Sweater: Beth Ditto ebay UK Size 26-28  (This Evans Line no longer exists)
Dress: Asos Curve (US Size 22) bubble Skater Dress, this has become my go-to dress for cropped sweaters and tights. It is comfy and fun.
Belt: gifted with another belt that I purchased on FatToo
Leggings: One Stop Plus Size 3X (I wear a size 26-28 generally). I cannot really recommend metallic leggings.  No matter what size you get they bunch at the knee and the ankle immediately and I think the bunching looks worse than in other colors.

IMAG0142Then on Sunday we went out to our friend Katy Boynton‘s studio to celebrate Heartfullness, and of course I had to wear my valentine outfit again.

Shoes: Torrid Size 10, I wish they had had 10 pair, I would have bought them all, they were $10 in the store Thanksgiving weekend.

Beth Ditto Inspired Necklace

Beth Ditto NecklaceOMG!  As many of you know Beth Ditto is my fashion hero as well as my fatshion hero.  She wears whatever she wants and it all looks fabulous and she does not appear to care about the rules.  But I must admit that I was surprised to see a Beth Ditto inspired necklace.  I am curious if the necklace has her blessing, or can anyone call something “inspired by…”?

The necklace, in my opinion, does not seem to reflect her big, outrageous style, and is only 18 inches long, which would barely be large enough for my neck, and I would kind of assume hers, but I thought you might be amused to see it, I was.

If you are a Beth Ditto fan, as I am, do look at this post of her big, outrageous style, it is a wonderful deconstruction of her style and how you might achieve it.  The examples are not plus size, and certainly not super plus size, but the concepts are all there, and I am hoping it will make me braver.

Did you know there is a term for the distance between your socks and your skirt in Japanese fashion?

‘Zettai ryouiki’ is a term for a japanese fashion that translates roughly into ‘Absolute Territory’ or ‘Absolute Region’, which are catchall terms for any exposed legflesh between the tops of your socks and a skirt. Zettai ryouiki are excellent for cosplay, lolita, and just about everything. Even keeping (most) of your legs warm.

Beth Ditto – Purple Hooded Spotted Ensemble

This is my first Beth Ditto Ensemble.  I had never even heard of Beth Ditto 2 months ago and then someone on the Facebook FatToo page, which is a Facebook plus size thrift store, posted these purple, big circle, not quite polka dot, leggings.  I love leggings and I love purple so it seemed like a natural fit.  Then a couple of weeks someone offered to sell me the dress/tunic.  It had the retro 80s vibe so I bought it and when it came I was in love.

The dress is a little long and the armholes are a little big which is odd since it should be too small for me since I am a US size 26-28 and it is a UK Size 22-24.  Each of the Evans Beth Ditto pieces I have tried on fit a little differently, so it is difficult to determine how something might fit.  Very disappointing.  BUT, I love the clothes and you will be seeing more of them.
