British Plus Size Fashion Weekend 2013

british-plus-size-fashion-weekend-4Last weekend was the first ever British Plus Size Fashion Weekend 2013 and I wish I could have been there.  But since I could not I thought I would put together some of the things that I think it would be fun to have seen.  Here are the designers that are participating. Some familiar names like Simply Be, and lots of new names, like Syreeta Badu, that I will look forward to learning more about.  To checkout what happened check out their Facebook Page.

I am including a video below.   I loved seeing the larger sized models and I especially loved seeing one of my favorite designers, Cult of California, toward the end of the video.  I know right now I am going to have to have those back and silver tights.  They are not up on the website yet, but I will be checking every day.

Matchie Matchie in my Domino Dollhouse, asos Curve and We Love Colors Outfit

Domino Dollhouse, asos curve, we love color I showed up at a staff meeting yesterday (although I am a volunteer) at the Burning Man Project and there was my friend Jennifer Raiser (who is an amazing blogger and writer) and we each had on our matchie matchie outfits including a black bubble skirt, flats, and a patterned red blazer.  It was so fun I just had to tell you about it.

Sweater: Domino Dollhouse – Size 4X – (out of stock)
Dress: ASOS Curve – Size 22 U.S.
Tights: We Love Color – One Size

We Love Colors striped tights in both the black striped tights and the white striped tight are one plus size tights.  I am a size 26-28, weigh 275 lbs., height 5’5″ and these tights just fit me and I love them.  I have included the weight and height chart below.

On the other hand We Love Colors has a solid color tight that runs up to 375 lbs., (and maybe even a little higher if you extrapolate from my weight in the prior chart).

Torrid Plus Size Tights – Leggings

IMG_2475These are some Size 2X 100% polyester tights I bought from Torrid this summer. The stretch comes from the fact that they are woven. They have a different sizing scheme since I wear a 4X in Tops and 5X in dresses and a 28 or 30 in pants at Torrid.

IMG_2467I love them.  I had been looking for something a little abstract in a plus size without much luck.  I find them difficult to wear unless I am wearing all black so that is a little limiting, and the lace skirt and top from Torrid were probably a little too “lacey” for the abstract cotton looking leggings. Still looking for the perfect outfit.

The bracelets came as a set from Torrid also.  I love bangles and they are often too small for me so this really makes me appreciate Torrid.

Beth Ditto – My Fatshion Hero

I have a new Fatshion Hero – Beth Ditto, a wild and rule breaking fatshionista.  She is an American singer-songwriter, most famous for her work with the indie rock band Gossip.  Above is the cover of her brand new book which I am going to put on my Kindle today.

But on to her clothes.  She had a fashion line with Evans in 2009 – 2010, and I have fallen in love with some of her pieces.  I am not going to post any photos yet, I think her book cover speaks for itself.  But I am starting to acquire some of her clothing and am definitely claiming her for my own Fatshion Icon.  In the video below Beth speaks how she developed her style. Update: On Thursday I posted on Beth Ditto band’s (Gossip) Facebook Page and they shared both my Facebook Page and Blog on their Page.  It made my little heart swell.  YAY!

Cult of California – A Review – Size 5x

Since the first moment I heard about Cult of California I knew I had to have some of their clothes, the question was, would it fit?  I bought tights, 2 jackets, 2 styles of sports bras and my very favorite, a sheer and opaque striped tank with a racer back.  I weigh 280 lbs., I wear a size 26-28 sometimes a 30 and carry a lot of weight in my torso. I have had very mixed results with the Cult of California sizing, but I am really glad I bought some because I love the pieces that have worked.

Black & Turquoise Sports Bra: 4X – Precious, fits well, not as much support as the Black racerback..

Black Racer-Back Sports Bra: Let me tell you how cute this bra is, although it will never be seen. It has beading on the cross straps in both the front and the back.  It fits well and I have been wearing it a lot.

Tights – Sheer/Opaque:  I love these but the 5X is too big and I have sold them, but I am going to buy them in a 4X.

Moto Jacket: 5X but the jacket will not zip because I have a large waist/hips.

Hooded Jacket: 5X fits, but of all the pieces this feels the least like me.  I have not actually worn it yet, so I don’t know whether I am going to keep it or sell it.

Sheer/Opaque Tank Top (Black Shadow Stripe): My very favorite item and it fits, I always get compliments when I wear it, and I am going to buy another one.  I am looking for a racer-back t-shirt to wear under it.

Torrid! Torrid! Torrid! and a little ASOS Curve

I am not really a floral kind of girl, but I just had to try this sweater because it came out in spring and I thought it might be really light, and guess what, it is.  Is is half the weight of similar sweaters I own like this and this.  It was 68° here in San Francisco so I wanted a little something to cover up with and to brighten up my dress. I love the silver sparkle, floral leggings except that the size is weird.  They are a 2X and a 1X would actually fit better and the are from Torrid, where I wear a 5X dress.  And you may have noticed that these big bracelets are my staple this month.  Just liking the weight and fun on my wrist. Stripes In All Directions

Everywhere I look I see stripes, all sizes – all colors.  I found this skirt on Ebay and fell in love with it because it was stripes in all different directions.  It is a beautiful day in San Francisco, but the moment the sun went behind the building I needed a jacket. I wanted to show you this outfit with white stocking and a more casual everyday look, with leggings.  I hope you like it as much as I do…affinity
