I cannot really tell you where the idea for this blog came from in the last few weeks. I have been shopping a little more since I am about to retire and my clothing will be able to reflect more of who I am rather than my work persona, which was pretty much a uniform consisting of black pants, a turtleneck, usually black and a blazer or jacket. So in the midst of shopping and looking for new places to shop for fun and maybe edgy clothes, I woke up one morning and realized that I wanted to start this blog.
As a brand new plus size/curvy/fat fashion blogger I have been exploring other blogs to get to know how this world has changed since I was an avid shopper in the 80s and 90s and to see which blogs I want to provide links to on my blog. My questions for myself have been, did I want variety or was I more interested in like minded bloggers? One of my priorities in blogging and shopping is to find and share clothes at the larger end of plus size fashion (size 24+). My mission is threefold, do I like what they wear, does it look something they are wearing would fit me and did they point me to shopping so I can check it out?
My mission for blog subjects is also threefold: I want to blog about curvier fashion, I want to tell you about how the different brands of clothing fit me, a size 26-28, I want to show you my “do it yourself” (DIY) projects that I have done and will continue to do to accomodate my curvier size in a smaller size fashion world, and I want to provide a place for my friends to guest post about their fashion sense, both large and small, because I love them.
I have been blogging since 2006. The first few years I wrote a personal blog about what was going on in my life and things like movie reviews, etc. Then in 2008 I re-instated a blog for the Black Rock Arts Foundation and continued with that, writing over 360 posts over the next four years. In 2009 I started blogging for the Burning Man Blog.
I chose the name Affatshionista because I wanted to combine the concept of my chosen name, Affinity, the point of view of the blog, fat, and that is about fashion. I love that the word “fatshion” has become a coined term in Google.
It has been amazing to be able to share on such an immediate basis in this ever changing world of the internet. It has been a huge adventure for me and I am excited about this new path and I hope you will come along for the ride and tell me about your experiences and thoughts about whatever I am blogging about.
Peace….affinity
