I Am Loving ASOS Curve Salon

asos curve salonI love ASOS Curve. I love that they are trendy. I love that their sizes run large, and I can wear many of their US Size 22s and almost all of their US Size 24 clothes. AND they have great sales. They are at the top of my “go to list” for clothes.

And YAY, they are creating a more upscale look in their summer 2014 collection, ASOS Curve Salon.

On my list for summer is the easy fit and flare print with the white inserts. I do not always buy new trends but I like this one a lot. And who does not need a beautiful embellished dress?

asoscurve salon sale collageBut I have also loved the three Salon dresses that are on sale, which are on the same page for ASOS Curve Salon. Some of the sizes are sold out, but they are worth checking out, in my humble opinion.

UPDATE: 6/21/2014 ASOS had a fire and stopped taking orders until the damage could be assessed. Hopefully there will not be too much damage.

I got an opportunity to wear it when my friends threw a fabulous party for a very special friend’s birthday . It was a wonderful night.

The party was at a venue I had been dying to go to, The Battery, and since the Birthday Girl was a Burning Man campmate, we got to see various iterations of different years of campmates from many different years of Burning Man. A glorious evening. That is a kiss on MonkeyBoy’s face, I had kisses on my skirt and top so I handed out sticker kisses. Such a fun evening. Thanks to my friends for creating this moment.

Emerald Wearing eShakti Plus Size at Burning Man Headquarters

Emerald wearing eShakti - Customized

Emerald wearing eShakti Customized

My friend Emerald, who works at Burning Man Headquarters, asked me about my blog a few months ago, and then perused it. She then told me she had ordered from eShakti, here is her story:

With a Burning Man identity of “Emerald” and finding myself blessed with a job at the headquarters in San Francisco I decided to splurge on a dress.   It turned out not to be quite a splurge as this dress was on sale and I had a first-time-buyer discount.  I paid a total of $23.90.

Here are the measurements I provided to eShakti:

  • Lengthofarm:Short
  • Upperarm:15
  • Hip:55
  • Waist:45
  • Underbust:41
  • Bust:45
  • Chest:44
  • Shoulder:17
  • I’m 5 feet tall and weigh ~210.
I get a lot of compliments on this outfit.  It’s comfortable and fun to wear.   The only measurement I have a problem with is shoulder-to-shoulder and I need to go back and re-measure myself.  The dress crosses from front to back too close to my shoulder and you can’t pull it in because of the design.   I wear a blouse under it (most of the time anyway) as it is cut lower than I would wear it during the day.
Overall I am thrilled to get a dress cut to size that I really enjoy.

Thanks Emerald for taking the time to share with us how eShakti worked for you and you look fabulous in your dress.

When our blogging collective Ahead of the Curve decided on the subject of Plus Size Thrifting I was concerned because I had just written a post a few weeks ago about thrifting, and here was the subject coming up again. But, since my husband and I just retired a couple of years ago, and I still want to be able to spend money on clothes, I set out to find a bargain I liked enough to blog about.

Alberto Makali Size 4X Pleated Shirt from Ebay $30 including shipping (Although a 3X because of the pleating, I thought it might fit)

After the dress, I wanted something to dress it up, so I found this Alberto Makali pleated Shirt on ebay.

But then I wanted to find something I already had in my jewelry box. So it seemed like a “Do It Yourself” bracelet, and a gifted pendant that I had never worn would be great choices. And even the elastic belt was a gift that arrived in the package with the dress, although I had not purchased it.

I had a lot of fun with this challenge. Click HERE for some thrifting tips from the Curvy Fashionista.

When I was researching thrifting I came across this lovely quote.

Plus Size Goes to the Burning Man at the Global Leadership Conference v.2

Wearing Vintage Beth Ditto

Wearing Vintage Beth Ditto – Shopping

My husband and I have been the registrars for the Burning Man Global Leadership Conference for all eight of them. So on day three of the conference, we found ourselves sitting behind a desk, greeting people from all over the world, people who are thrilled to be at an event like this. So I got out my trusty iPhone and took a few photos so you can see what we wear to a conference, rather than to Burning Man, that event in the desert.

Plus Size Goes to the Burning Man at the Global Leadership Conference v.1

My husband and I have been the registrars for the Burning Man Global Leadership Conference for all eight of them. So on his birthday, day two of the conference, we found ourselves sitting behind a desk, greeting people from all over the world, people who are thrilled to be at an event like this, and then my friend and fabulous photographer, Sidney Erthal, offered to take a few photos for Affatshionista. It was a great break, fun and of course some fabulous photos.

You’ll notice I am still wearing a knee brace at two months post-op from my knee replacement surgery, but I thought it best to wear it for one of my first really long days. I wish I had thought to wear it on the inside of the leggings, LOL.  And that gorgeous necklace is a loan from my fabulous friend Jennifer Raiser, for a shoot for this outfit. I thought it safest if I wore it rather than put it in my purse.

I took a photo of Gloria Lamb two years ago at this conference, and my phone got stolen that night, so I am thrilled to have this photo, and of course it is SO much better since Sidney took it.

I Want A Plus Size 4x Crop Top!!!

Domino Dollhouse My personal favorite, my color and a generous 4X and cut a little looser than some.

Domino Dollhouse
My personal favorite, my color and a generous 4X and cut a little looser than some.

I have been seeing crop tops everywhere lately and loving them, and now I have to have one. But I carry a lot of weight in my torso, I am 65 and not very many crop tops come in a generous size 4X plus size crop top. So I went on a search to see what is out there and I was happily surprised.

Candy Strike You can choose most of these tops in a 4x crop top or longer version, Very Fun and Edgy.

How Do I Wear a Crop Top?

Several pieces of advice popped up over and over again when I was reading about how to wear a crop top!

  • Wear with high waisted clothing, perhaps a pencil skirt
  • Wear a t-shirt of some sort or something sheer if the crop top is just TOO revealing for your comfort.
And here is a well written post on How to Wear a Crop Top!

Beth Ditto Prom Dress Goes to a Garden Party

Ditto prom LGWhaddya know, another Beth Ditto post. When I realized that the theme for our Ahead of the Curve Blogging Collective’s, May post was Garden Party I knew just what I wanted to wear. I have had this dress for about a year, it is the Beth Ditto Stain Glass Prom Dress from her 2009 Evans collection, and of course I bought it on ebay. I fell in love with it and looked for it for a long time before I found it. It has never seemed very “promish” to me since it is a floral, cotton sundress, but I expect to wear it a lot in the near future. I may try it with a belt. I love that it has pockets.

beth ditto prom dress jewelryAfter I saw this photo of Beth in this dress I decided I had to have a statement necklace, and of course I had to make it myself?

signature necklace LGBut of course I got carried away, and I made it a little larger than was necessary, but what fun I had. I call it assemblage. I started with four inexpensive clear rhinestone brooches and just kept adding glass buttons and beads from Etsy, and from my stash of old jewelry from my mother-in-law and my mom, onto the heavy chain I had in my jewelry box. The earrings are from the 80s. I think I paid $6 for them on Etsy also.

ditto sweaterThis is the end of my Beth Ditto stash, time to look for more. I would love to have this sweater, also from the 2009 collection, but I have never seen it on ebay. Maybe they did not make very many. I am sure someone has one in a closet somewhere, and they never wear it, and it is just sitting there waiting for them to sell it to me.
