Camis – Old, Avenue Black and Pink Layered Size 26/28         –      Belt, old Torrid Size 5

I fell in love with this jacket the moment I saw it. A fall jacket with a black and green background, and lots of pink flowers, kind of a spring jacket in winter colors. As you probably know ASOS Curve runs fairly so I am able to wear a US 24, even though I am a US size 26/28.
And I already had a necklace to wear with it (below) so what more could I ask for. But I struggled with jeans, or a mini skirt, or pencil skirt and I really wanted something that was not black, and I settled on the teal. I loved doing a little street shoot in San Francisco.

I think the necklace is really fun. I thought about making one, as I do sometimes, but sometimes it ends up more expensive than buying a costume statement necklace, so I just found something to match the colors that was not too expensive. One of the things I love about Amazon is that it gives you similar necklaces in the same size and price range at the bottom of the page.

Reallllly, Back to School?

Felt Bowler Hat - Vest - Mini Skirt High Top Sneakers (similar and just as wide)

ASOS Curve Felt Bowler Hat                       –                   Mynt 1792 Vest size 4X –                                                   ASOS Curve Mini Skirt Size 24
T.U.K. High Top Sneakers (similar and just as wide)

So when someone in Ahead of the Curve suggested “Back to School” as our September blog subject, I thought OMG, I haven’t even thought about school clothes in 40 years. I started college at 25 so my approach to dressing for school was a little different. BUT, I had fallen in love with this felt bowler hat on ASOS Curve that I wanted to try, and I love, and they also had this mini skirt that just screamed school, and then I had to check and see if there are still school-girls in high top sneakers, and or boots, and guess what, there are, and it all came together. So here we are!

vest holding hatI thought I would try the look two different ways.

I wore the bowler hat out and about yesterday and everyone loved it. It is quite large (and I have a big head), and is difficult to keep on my head so I am going to try a couple of little twists of hair to anchor it to, or to put something in the hat to make it a little smaller. It is lightweight, which I love, and thus not too warm.

The vest is going to have to be returned. The armholes are HUGE and since it is scuba material, quite heavy. So you can’t wear it in the heat nor the cold. Very sad, because I really like it.

The gold necklaces are mine that I have acquired over the last 30 years. I made black silk cord into necklaces using these lobster clasps so I could get the correct length so they would be the length I wanted. I am trying to use the jewelry that was my mother’s and my mother-in-law’s, rather than buy new.

Geometrics Rock My World

Eyeglasses Pendant Cami Belt Skirt Gladiator Sandals

ASOS Curve Skirt Size 24EyeglassesPendantCami (similar)                                Torrid Stretch Belt Size 4 (similar)- Gladiator Sandals Size 9.5WW (similar)

I fell in love with this skirt the moment I saw it. I love that the geometric print runs into itself and is a little off kilter, and I have continued to love the black and white trend and I still see it everywhere in fashion.

Black and White always looks modern,
whatever that word means.   Karl Lagerfeld

The skirt I am wearing is a Size 24 which is a little big and I have it pinned, but the Size 22 was a little small. I am wearing it backwards because I like the way the print falls better, and since it is a pencil skirt, back or front do not matter. The eyeglasses are vintage and just like the ones Doris Day wore in Caprice.

Earrings

I found the earrings on Etsy, and they were just vintage round checkered tin earrings that someone had made cuts into, so that the pattern was uneven. I was so amused that they were as off kilter as the skirt that I bought them. And I suspect you will see me use that trick again. In addition they were stud earrings, and about ten years ago my ears started rejecting metal, so now I only wear clip earrings. Thus, I cut off the stud and replaced it with a set of clips, attached with my favorite glue E600, which it seems like I use everyday.

ASOS Curve US Size 26/28 PlaySuits – Review

I grew up in Palm Springs where it is quite warm, sometimes over 100º, so I love desert clothes, but when I moved to San Francisco, where it is often in the 60ºs in the summertime, I gave up all those skimpy clothes. But now we live across the Bay where it is often in the 80ºs and 90ºs I started eyeing rompers again. And ASOS Curve had several that I HAD to have. The strapless romper above is my favorite. it is made from a stretch cotton jersey, and I love the wide legged shorts. I tried it in a US Size 24 and it was really too big so I ordered the US Size 22. AND TAKE NOTE: They even have it to a SIZE 28.

I also love the Playsuit with buttons in a size US 24. It had cute detailing, but it was difficult to get in and out of so I returned it, and now it is sold out.

I of course had to try the edgy one with the lattice back.

It is easy to get in and out of because the back is so flexible, and I get compliments on it wherever I wear it. But I don’t feel like I have found the best styling for it. ASOS still has it to a US Size 20, but I think that would easily fit a US Size 24, since I am wearing a US Size 22 and I am a solid Size 26/28.

I think the strapless one will be part of my Burning Man wardrobe, although it requires a strapless bra, but it remains my favorite. Which one do you like?

I Am Loving ASOS Curve Salon

asos curve salonI love ASOS Curve. I love that they are trendy. I love that their sizes run large, and I can wear many of their US Size 22s and almost all of their US Size 24 clothes. AND they have great sales. They are at the top of my “go to list” for clothes.

And YAY, they are creating a more upscale look in their summer 2014 collection, ASOS Curve Salon.

On my list for summer is the easy fit and flare print with the white inserts. I do not always buy new trends but I like this one a lot. And who does not need a beautiful embellished dress?

asoscurve salon sale collageBut I have also loved the three Salon dresses that are on sale, which are on the same page for ASOS Curve Salon. Some of the sizes are sold out, but they are worth checking out, in my humble opinion.

UPDATE: 6/21/2014 ASOS had a fire and stopped taking orders until the damage could be assessed. Hopefully there will not be too much damage.

When our blogging collective Ahead of the Curve decided on the subject of Plus Size Thrifting I was concerned because I had just written a post a few weeks ago about thrifting, and here was the subject coming up again. But, since my husband and I just retired a couple of years ago, and I still want to be able to spend money on clothes, I set out to find a bargain I liked enough to blog about.

Alberto Makali Size 4X Pleated Shirt from Ebay $30 including shipping (Although a 3X because of the pleating, I thought it might fit)

After the dress, I wanted something to dress it up, so I found this Alberto Makali pleated Shirt on ebay.

But then I wanted to find something I already had in my jewelry box. So it seemed like a “Do It Yourself” bracelet, and a gifted pendant that I had never worn would be great choices. And even the elastic belt was a gift that arrived in the package with the dress, although I had not purchased it.

I had a lot of fun with this challenge. Click HERE for some thrifting tips from the Curvy Fashionista.

When I was researching thrifting I came across this lovely quote.

I Want A Plus Size 4x Crop Top!!!

Domino Dollhouse My personal favorite, my color and a generous 4X and cut a little looser than some.

Domino Dollhouse
My personal favorite, my color and a generous 4X and cut a little looser than some.

I have been seeing crop tops everywhere lately and loving them, and now I have to have one. But I carry a lot of weight in my torso, I am 65 and not very many crop tops come in a generous size 4X plus size crop top. So I went on a search to see what is out there and I was happily surprised.

Candy Strike You can choose most of these tops in a 4x crop top or longer version, Very Fun and Edgy.

ASOS Curve They only have a couple in stock at the moment.

And Torrid has added some crop tops for 2015, in a size 4 (which is what I wear Size 26/26) size 5 and size 6.

How Do I Wear a Crop Top?

Several pieces of advice popped up over and over again when I was reading about how to wear a crop top!

  • Wear with high waisted clothing, perhaps a pencil skirt
  • Wear a t-shirt of some sort or something sheer if the crop top is just TOO revealing for your comfort.
And here is a well written post on How to Wear a Crop Top!

Spinning the Color Wheel at Evans Plus Size

The Remaining 'CUT' Collection Pink Cami Green Cami

The Remaining ‘CUT’ Collection Evans U.S. Size 28
Pink Cami – From my Closet
ASOS Curve Green Cami U. S. Size 22 (A little big for me)

When I saw that Evans had a line, “CUT”, designed as part of a competition by students from a couple of Universities that were known for their strong print and knitwear design divisions, I was thrilled and I knew I had to have a piece.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLcOtJeHe4I&w=560&h=315]

Then the skirt went on sale. And our Ahead of the Curve topic was Miss Matched. So I started mixing and matching camis to wear with the skirt, dark green? does it need orange? or red? is mint green too blue?, trying things on and then trying them on a different way.

evans jumpsuitIt happens that Evans accidentally sent me the jumpsuit also, so I thought you might like to see it too. It runs a little long as jumpsuits often do. This would need to be shortened.

I went through my jewelry, How much could I wear, and stay in the color family? And then I went to an event and my friend, Jennifer Raiser, was wearing a green and hot pink necklace I could borrow, what are the odds of that?

And then shoes, well shoes were kind of a bust. I don’t have any forest green shoes or hot pink shoes, so white sandals it is.

I thought you might also like to see some of my other Miss Matched outfits, HERE and HERE.
