Kiyonna Chameleon Convertible Skirt & Dress Plus Size 5X Review

kiyanna dressWe are in Palm Springs this week because a friend was kind enough to offer us her timeshare that she was not going to use.  So in anticipation of being in 90° weather I went to my Gwynnie Bee account to have something light and deserty to wear. It turns out that this Kiyonna skirt/dress is incredibly heavy and I would NEVER be able to wear in warm weather, even though, since it is strapless it looks like it is designed for a hot day.  I was quite disappointed.

kiyanna descriptionI did not pay attention to the size chart (my bad) and the 5X fell off of me so much that I could not really even take a photo of it.  My measurements are HERE if you want to compare your size to mine and see if this would fit.  The sizing is good to know, since I have never worn Kiyonna before, that this skirt/dress it runs true to size, since I usually wear a 4X. This dress not longer appears to be for sale but you can still find it on Gwynnie Bee.

As you know from this review, I have a trial membership to Gwynnie Bee, and if you are interested in checking it out please read more HERE (full disclosure) if you sign up I do get a free month free.

Peace…affinity

  1. I’m almost exactly the same size as you, and I own this skirt/dress in all 4 colors, in a 4x. I really only wear it as a skirt, though. It’s the perfect length as a maxi skirt on me (I’m 5’9″, but with a long torso and shorter legs). I wear the striped one with graphic tees a lot, and the other colors, I mix & match with the rest of my wardrobe. I own quite a few items from Kiyonna. The 4x is usually perfect, although some of the lace stuff runs smaller (especially in the arms), and their pencil skirts run way big. (I think I need a 3 1/2, lol…the 3x is a little too body-con, but the 4x is just ginormous and falling off.) The shirts with ruching – don’t give in to the temptation to size up. The top/dress has to fit snug for it to lay right. Otherwise, it just sort of looks droopy and sad. I like that their clothes mostly don’t require dry cleaning, they’re flattering, they’re made well, and they’re comfortable (at least the stuff in the rayon jersey). If you’re still doing Gwynnie Bee – put the blue Haven top in your closet. It’s lightweight enough to wear when it’s hot (it does need a quick tumble on low to get the wrinkles out, but once they’re out, they pretty much stay out while you’re wearing it), the crossover bust has some magical elastic that makes it not gape, and the bottom has a cute peplum effect that looks great with pencil skirts.

Since you were planning to wear this strapless….do you have the secret to a strapless bra that doesn’t make you want to take it off within 30 seconds of putting it on? Because if you do, please share!

  2. I have worn strapless bras for years. I do not know why they do not bother me. I have a white one and a black one from Glamorize, older, and not as becoming the last 2 or three years, but sometimes I just have to… I am trying not to buy new strapless clothing.

Thanks for the wonderful comments. I love know more about how specific brands fit other people. It is kind of you to take the time.

    • No worries – I love to talk to people about the brands I like…and about the ones that piss me off. Heh. I guess I will just have to continue my quest on the bra. I’ve tried the tube styles, but they aren’t *quite* big enough, and the ones with wires kill me (when I can even find one in a big enough band size, since they seem to usually run super-small).

  3. I got this convertible dress from Kiyonna via Gwynnie Bee last month (see pictures here- http://themuffinqueenscloset.blogspot.com/2013/10/work-outfits-on-windy-day.html) & was expecting to not even wear it, but it turned out to be soooo comfortable. I wear 4x in all of Kiyonna clothing and since joining Gwynnie Bee, they have fast become one of my favorite clothing brands. I had a bad experience years back with a dress I bought from them…but it was either a fluke, or they’ve upped their quality.

I just found your blog today through another fatshion blog and I am really enjoying it. It is nice to see other fat chicks over 40 wearing fun clothes *smile*.
