Mycra Pac – Outlet Sale

A few weeks ago I told you how much I love my Mycra Pac raincoat, although they are expensive.  But they do run very large and last forever (I have had mine at least 8 years).  My friend Janet got a postcard that they are having an outlet sale in Moraga, CA.

Favorite Moment in Venice

Cruising along the Grand Canal in a water taxi with our new Aussie Friends

Favorite Question: How do you know your friend so well when you live on different continents? Answer: We just met yesterday!

Wearing a Lords of Liverpool tunic from Torrid that says “All you need is Love”. Size 2x. I make it fit by stretching it out when it is still damp since I usually wear a 3X or 4X. I bought mine on EBay and I notice that there is a 3x on there today,  I forgot to tell you that the t-shirt/tunic has all the words to the song written on the back.  It makes me smile to wear it.  It is a low v-neck so I often wear a t-shirt under it…affinity

American Rag – A review

Until recently my interest in fashion had been on hiatus, thus  finding fun clothes in a size 26 -28 was difficult.  So I started reading Skorch Magazine, and one of the first things I saw was a layout with Tiffany from On the Fat Walk, in this size 3X American Rag tunic.  So I stole her look. I figured she would not mind helping the new kid on the block put a look together, since she looked so fabulous in it. It is one of the most comfortable outfits I have ever worn, so I will wearing on the  plane to Venice Italy tomorrow morning.  Thanks Tiffany, for helping me get started…affinity

Roaman’s – a Review – Capri Leggings

I made a little fashion mistake last week.  I ordered a size 4X leggings from Roaman’s.  I did not review their size chart, I did not look at any notes I might have had about sizing for Roaman’s.  But guess what, Roaman’s runs VERY large.  According to their size chart a 4X is equal to a 34-36, not a 26-28, which is what I usually wear.  Good to know, doncha think? So I am off on my vacation to Europe without tights to match my new Forever 21 t-shirts, which you will be seeing soon…affinity

I Stand

As I discussed in a prior post, the I STAND campaign has been on various billboards in Atlanta.  Before they come down this week, I want to be sure and honor my friend Carol Squires, whom I have known since the early 80s, for her conviction and willingness to walk her talk.  I love you Carol, and I am proud to call you my friend…affinity

Chic Star Vintage – A Review

The vintage look is all the rage right now and one on-line store I have been looking at Chic Star hails from China.  One of my favorite aspects of Chic Star is that they solicit designs from the public and pay them a small fee if the design is used, thus the designs have quite a bit of breadth.  In addition, as lots of on-line stores are doing right now they encourage buyers to send in their photos.

Their size range includes a 4X with a bust size up to 56 inches,  but the waist is only 48 inches, seems like the designs might work better on an hourglass figure rather than an apple shaped size 26-28 like me. I am concerned that the waist will not fit, and that has kept me from buying one of these fun dresses.  I would love to hear about it if you have a Chic Star dress…affinity

Tripp NYC Plus Sizes – Review

A Tripp skirt might be the first piece of clothing I ever bought from Torrid, years ago. The skirt was a purple underskirt with tulle overlay and was a 4X, and always a bit small, but I loved it so I wore it anyway. At the time it seems to reflect Torrid’s edgy style. Then this fall I found this turquoise pleated skirt at Torrid in a 5X, and it is a perfect fit.   That drew me back to Tripp and I bought a couple of pairs of jeans (leopard which you will see later), which you can buy at  One Stop Plus or Torrid (as well as a bustier on sale) for about the same price. FYI, the short jeans are just a bit too short for me and I am 5′ 5″.  I look for Tripp pretty often on Ebay because I rarely find anything else that I like quite as much.

A few weeks ago, I found this 4X mini pleated skirt in a purple plaid and I just had to have it but as you can see below it is a little small and I will not be wearing it again.  So it seems to me that Tripp NYC runs just a tiny bit small but I love their fun style and I think it reflects who I am, so I will continue to buy it when I can find it in my size.

I purchased the belt on Ebay many years ago. If I were buying it today I would not buy rhinestones since I have lost a few over the years…affinity

The Prom – Burning Man Style

Krystal thrifted her prom dress from Crossroads Trading Co. Store. I love that it is up-cycled. Precious!

Last Saturday night we went to a “Prom” given by Burning Man for staff and volunteers.  I think this Prom was conceived as a way to allow you to create a Prom “how it might have been” or “how you wanted it to be”.  We had a great time and thanks to Krystal and Meghan for letting me take their photos…affinity

Meghan purchased this dress for her high school prom, 15 years ago. Very Elegant!

International No Diet Day

Today is International No Diet Day.  It is easy to remember to remember when International No Diet Day is: It’s the day after Cinco de Mayo, and two days after Star Wars Day: May the 4th (May the Force be with You). So grab your light saber, bash the piñata of the Dieting Industrial Complex, and think about all the things that you love about yourself that have nothing to do with shape or size!

Just to be clear “no dieting ” does not mean that you should not be paying attention to making healthy choices that fuel your body in good ways,  This day is an annual celebration of body acceptance and body shape diversity.

So go out and have an wonderful amazing day appreciating yourself and your body and loving yourself, just the way you are, perfect…affinity

ERISA Retirement Brunch

And what is ERISA you may ask? ERISA is the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974, and for our purposes it is the law that regulates employee benefit plans. Pretty exciting isn’t it?  This is my retirement  brunch with my ERISA attorney friends.  We have all practiced ERISA law for over 20 years and have been friends for almost that long.  It is such a treat to know them and and be able to discuss the law, and our lives, and all the things old friends talk about.  Thanks to each of you, Barbara, Connie, Kathy and Ina for sending me off into the world of not working.

As you can see, I am wearing the dress that I wore to my last retirement event.  It is just perfect for a little more than jeans but a little less than dressy…affinity
