New Look for the Striped Jacket – OOTD

I am going to see the movie Jeff Who Lives At Home today with my friend Janet, I wanted to wear something comfy, so here is my outfit of the day (OOTD).  So I got out my Stripes in all Directions jacket that I had not worn to work yet, and I think I like it even more with the black pants, not too surprising.

I even wore the black shoes with white stripes and they are SO comfortable that I decided to try to buy another similar pair from Simply Be, but guess what, they are gone. I am so sad…affinity

Jacket: Torrid – Size 4X

Cami: Avenue – Size 26-28

Pants: Avenue – Size 28

Bracelets: Torrid

Necklace: JennyBird

Shoes: Simply Be (Body Star) 8EEE, and an 8EE would be plenty wide enough.

Eyeglasses – Fashion Failure?

In 2001, when I was getting married at Burning Man I bought a pair of vintage 1980 french rhinestone glasses that I loved. Two days before our 10th wedding anniversary, the glasses broke, I was heartbroken of course.

Then I looked everywhere for rhinestone vintage frames that would fit my wide head that were similar. But I had VINTAGE in my head, and as usual proceeded on my path.  I ended up with the vintage leopard frames below, which I loved, but turned out not be very becoming.  I looked like a woman out of a British farce!

And guess what, they are not working.  My great optician tells me that the way the 50 years old frames are configured will not work with my progressive lenses. A very expensive lesson.  So watch this space for the new eyeglass look.  Fashion Failure!.

But while we are on this page I wanted to tell you a little about our wedding clothes:

Dress:  A lavender bridesmaid dress made by Sydney’s Closet in a size 28, which I then had altered to make it smaller under the arms and have it shortened.

Glasses: Bought for the wedding on EBAY as “new old stock” or NOS.

Wings & Veil: We made by a craftsperson living in the Bay Area, and the veil I dyed a light lavender and created the armature for the lavender and purple crystal beads.  I loved it!

Flowers: My girlfriends and I created the flowers and they are made from heavy crepe paper using some concepts from a Martha Stewart pattern.

Cropped Jeans Jacket – Does It Fit?

 Jacket: Domino Dollhouse Size 4X

Red Cami: Avenue and DIY (Do It Yourself) Size 26-28

Bracelets: Torrid

I am showing this short jacket with the red t-shirt so that you can see how short this cute jeans jacket is.  The t-shirt is a plain red cami, that I have altered by sewing on the design from my Burning Man camp. I have about 100 shirts made each summer for my camp but since they do not carry my size I find a cami the same color and I sew on my camp logo. I love this jacket but the 4X will not button so I will not be keeping it, but isn’t it precious.  My order arrived with this sweet little button and I just had to show you…affinity

Our Guests – Carole & Kathy and Cathi

Carole happy in the San Francisco sunshine

I bought a lot of clothes in the 80s.  It was the beginning of the time when I could buy fun clothes in my size, which was a delight.  During that time, I would run into Carole shopping at Harper Greer‘s workspace or at a trunk sale.  During that period I would see her at the swim in Richmond and Albany where the fat girls rented a pool and for a couple of hours on the weekend we could swim with one another and we would always talk about clothes.  And I was always especially interested in Carole because she was an attorney, as I am, but in private practice, which always seems so brave to me. But I really got to know Carole when she started exercising with my friend and then personal trainer, Cinder Ernst

.  For over 10 years she and Kathy, her partner, and Cathi and I worked out on Saturdays with a varying cast of people.  Some were with us the whole time and some were short term but we persevered.  And then life changed, Carole retired and she and Kathy moved to Minnesota, and our trainer changed gyms and I have not worked out with her again until recently (more about that in another post).  So when Carole and Kathy came to visit our reunion was a treat for all of us.  This is what Carole had to say about what she was wearing….affinity

Bodacious resortwear, a hawaiian boutique at the coconut marketplace near Poipu, Kauai. Hans baristas shells and starfish with sparkly beads sewn on some of the shells. Cost: about $60.00. Sells beautiful clothes for all sizes petite to supersize. No website but you can call. Size 5-6x

Pants: from Junonia website, large size sports wear and winter wear. Active life pants, comfy, well fitting for me (5’9″ tall). $59 now; mine are several years old, so they wear well, size 6

Shoes: my trusty winter Crocs (they come with a flannel insert which I removed for my “snow-birding” trip to Kauai and California…Carole

Kathy and Carole. Kathy says to tell you this is standard dyke wear…

DKNY Jeans Tiered Skirt – How Does It Fit?

I bought this Black Tiered Skirt from DKNY Jeans on sale in a size 26-28.  The “Jeans” line appears to have one size larger than the DKNYC line, but it is actually about the same size, a very generous 4X, in my opinion.  I think I am going to cut one tier off because it is a little long the way it is and it will have more flow and swish a layer shorter.  I will put up a photo when I put together an outfit.  And yes it is on sale…affinity

J4 Leather Jackets – How do they Fit?

I bought a 5X jacket on Ebay from Treasure Trove Trading Post.  I was going to my 44th Palm Springs High School reunion and of course I wanted something new.  I received an email saying they did not have the jacket in stock but they would order it. I responded with the date that I needed it and my measurements. No problem, they replied, I would have it timely and I was their standard 5X.

I received the jacket a couple of weeks after the reunion and it did not even begin to fit. When I tried to return it the Ebay store told me to contact the maker, and the maker’s email and voicemail were full. FASHION FAILURE

Casual Friday

On Fridays, like all of you, I dress a little more casually.  This is one of my favorite outfits.  It just feels like who I am.

Sweater: Torrid, 4X, it is kind of a shrug and it fits just above my waist

Cami: Avenue, size 26-28

Belt: Bob’s Belts, Size 50 – This is the largest one he makes in this 1.5 inch width and I have a couple of holes left on the belt so someone a little larger than a 4X might be able to wear it

Bracelets: Torrid – I love that they are large enough to go over my hand.  This is one set of bangles with the larger ones on one arm and the smaller ones on the other arm.

Jeans: Tripp, Size 28 (short) from Torrid

Love Squared – How Does it Fit?

Well, while on this Macy’s sale shopping binge I also tried a couple of Love Squared dresses, that although they were 3Xs, I did not realize that they were junior plus sizes, and unlikely to be generously cut.  Neither of them even came close to fitting, I could not even get them on my size 4x body.  But aren’t they fabulous, and if you are a 2x or 3x and like to be a little wild you should be on the lookout for them…affinity
